Effects of hypothermia on arrhythmia mechanisms, arrhythmia mechanisms during cardiac ischemia, and post-resuscitation neuro-hypoperfusion

Dr. Joseph Piktel is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and Attending Emergency Department Physician at MetroHealth Medical Center, a Level I Trauma and Burn Center, where his clinical practice continuously involves stabilization from acute trauma as well as resuscitation. His expertise includes electrophysiologic derangements during myocardial ischemia and neurologic injury following cardiac arrest resuscitation. Research interests include investigation into the effects of hypothermia on arrhythmia mechanisms, arrhythmia mechanisms during cardiac ischemia, and post-resuscitation neuro-hypoperfusion resulting in disruption of the blood-brain barrier with subsequent neuroinflammation.
